NEA Statement of intent

My magazine will be and educational magazine that will be aimed at 10 – 13 year olds. It will based on the turn based RPG (role-playing game) Pokemon and how to play the card game (TCG – trading card game). My magazine will be aimed for people who are new to the Pokemon TCG, or for people who want to re-familiarise themselves with the rules. I would say that it is for a niche audience because the Pokemon games and anime (Show) are more popular than the TCG. The magazine will include a detailed step by step tutorial on how to play the card game alongside pictures of the card so that people can follow it more easily. This will also accompany people who learn in different ways such as visual learners. My magazine will be called 'Professor Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa) - TCG'. Blackthorn trees grow in the UK and Pokemon professor names are based on trees such as Oak (Quercus), ‘Juniper (Juniperus Genus)’ and ‘Sycamore (Acer Pseudoplatanus)’. This will be a nice nod to the Pokemon games and anime for people who watched or played the games and now want to learn how to play the TCG.

My front cover will have Pokemon memorabilia on it such as a poster, some plushes, card and maybe some games. This is to intrigue people who are general fans of Pokemon to pick up my magazine. My double page spread will include a detailed step by step tutorial on how to play the card game alongside pictures of the cards so that people can follow it more easily. This will also accompany people who learn in different ways such as visual learners. At the start or the end of the instructions I will also add other pictures of Pokemon cards to show other cards that they might encounter along the way. I will also put in a website link to the Pokemon online TCG so if they do not want to spend a lot of money it will be a free alternative.
